Collaborations: U.S. Naval Hospital
Client
U. S. Naval Hospital Okinawa
Partners
People Signs (PS) collaborated with the Naval Design team to complete and execute plans for a facility-wide, wayfinding program from front door to points of egress. The facility is “the largest overseas hospital in the United States Navy … providing professional health care for the more than 55,000 beneficiaries on Okinawa and referral services for nearly 189,000 beneficiaries distributed around the Pacific.”
Project
Provide facility survey and mapping, product recommendation, logistics for shipment by sea, Customs oversight, sequential scheduling of project phases in coordination with other trades, on-site oversight of installation, and post-project summary and reports.
Situation
PS was called in after another provider failed to meet the client’s requirements on the front end of the project. As a consequence of the delayed re-start, we were responsible to complete the project in a seriously compressed time frame. All signage was supplied in English and Japanese.
Solution
Working within the open design plan specified, PS proposed a product more readily available that could meet the specifications of the variety of signs required as well as tie in with the previous designs already accepted. PS was an integral member of the project team providing logistical coordination as well as sign and wayfinding expertise. We met the demands of the previously imposed deadline on time and on budget.
